Title: Shatter Me ( Shatter Me #1)
Author: Tahereh Mafi
Genre: Dystopia/ Superhero
Rating: 4/5
Description: Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color. The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now. Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.
Review: I am pleased with this book. Often I read books that loss the beauty of metaphor and simile (which I love!!!) in contemporary literature. THIS BOOK DID NOT DISAPPOINT. It was absolute poetry. Sometimes you will close your eyes and let the words soak in as the fall inside your soul. Utterly beautiful. I enjoyed the fast paced, yet poetic journey of the narrative. I enjoy the romance that oozed from the pages, though I must admit while I LOVE romance, I was a tiny bit disappointed that the book was mostly romance. I was hoping for more dystopian thrills. That is my first complaint. My second is that the ending caught me off guard. It felt like it turned into a different genre. Other than that, I loved this. It warmed my heart to read such beautiful words. I will definitely re read this and have the same effect. It was that good. I can't wait to see what the rest of the series brings.
