Title: After (After #1)
Author: Anna Todd
Genre: New Adult (Erotic) Romance
Rating: 6/5 - PERFECT.
Description: Tessa is a good girl with a sweet, reliable boyfriend back home. She’s got direction, ambition, and a mother who’s intent on keeping her that way. But she’s barely moved into her freshman dorm when she runs into Hardin. With his tousled brown hair, cocky British accent, tattoos, and lip ring, Hardin is cute and different from what she’s used to. But he’s also rude—to the point of cruelty, even. For all his attitude, Tessashould hate Hardin. And she does—until she finds herself alone with him in his room. Something about his dark mood grabs her, and when they kiss it ignites within her a passion she’s never known before. He’ll call her beautiful, then insist he isn't the one for her and disappear again and again. Despite the reckless way he treats her, Tessa is compelled to dig deeper and find the real Hardin beneath all his lies. He pushes her away again and again, yet every time she pushes back, he only pulls her in deeper. Tessa already has the perfect boyfriend. So why is she trying so hard to overcome her own hurt pride and Hardin’s prejudice about nice girls like her? Unless…could this be love?
There was the time before Tessa met Hardin, and then there’s everything AFTER ... Life will never be the same.
Review: I would love to begin this review by saying WOW. This book was amazing. I absolutely loved it, became instantly addicted to it, and am not sure how I even went on through life up until now without it. Originally, After started as a fan fiction. Since I am a huge One Direction fan, naturally, I was reading it when it only had a couple hundred reads. I found it to be rushed and choppy in the writing style, but the plot line was oddly addicting. I mean, it was just a college girl falling for a bad boy. Typical, right? But it wasn't. It compelled me to keep reading and I freaked out every time she updated a new chapter. When Anna said she was getting published, I was shocked and jealous and excited all in one. I almost didn't buy the published version, wondering how on earth it could be any different. But Anna proved me wrong when it came to her writing style. When she sat down and revised her work it blew me away. The published version is perfect. I devoured every word with a rare hunger I have only ever seen myself use select times before. The chemistry between Tessa and Hardin is palpable, exciting, and explosive. The emotions pop out of the pages and punch you in the face. They rip out your heart, sow it back, and kick you with steel toed boots, apologizing as you limp away. It takes a lot of effort to go through such an emotional story. This is good writing, though. Words and people and places that take you away from your mundane life and push you into their place, their house, their bodies. I lived in Tessa's skin and my heart was broken and mended and broken and mended. The ending will blow you out of your seat. I read it before and didn't expect it. That is what I call genius. I highly recommend this if you love romance. Perfection.
